When it comes to breathing during your movement sequences, I don’t want you to make this complicated.

Always strive for a calm, rhythmic breathing pattern.

As you begin to observe your breath through movement, you will get valuable feedback.

Pay attention: after some time, do you begin to hold your breath or start breathing heavily?

This indicates that you have either passed your body’s functional threshold or that your body has learned to manipulate your breathing to help you move.

If you are unable to regulate your breathing pattern during a movement or position, it’s necessary to scale back your intensity or range of motion until you can restore calm and rhythmic breathing again.

For example:

If you notice that you hold your breath when you rotate into the Mid Back Opener, you will want to strive to find a calm rhythmic breath instead. If that takes a lot of work, reduce your rotation until you can find your breath again.

Maybe shoulder blade glides have you breathing heavily because that function is difficult for your body right now. If it’s challenging to calm your breathing, move slower and reduce your movement ranges until it becomes easier.

This approach is going to make any exercise significantly more impactful and restore function much more effectively.

That’s just one example of many to illustrate how important it is to find a calm, rhythmic breathing pattern. Apply this to all of your sequences and you’ll find a new level of progress.
