Begin with the top half of your foot/ toes on the step so there is a bend in the knee and activation in the glute. Step up by pressing the foot to activate the quad and glute muscle. Bring the other leg up to the stair using your hip flexor, press up using the quad and glute on this leg. The movement should feel balanced, even and smooth.
