Yes, The Movement Program effectively replaces typical stretching and mobility protocols.

That being said, it doesn’t mean that other stretching and mobility exercises are “bad,” but you’ll want to take some time and evaluate whether or not you believe the movements in question are benefitting you or not.

Are they noticeably effective?

Do you understand what’s happening or not happening during these protocols?

If you don’t currently use other protocols we don’t recommend adding them in but if you’re already accustomed to something else, one way you can decide if they’re helping you is to utilize the functional tests that you learned in the Assessment Toolkit.

For the exercises in question, do your functional tests before the stretch or exercise. Take note of what you find and then test again immediately after.

Did anything change?

Based on what you find, you can discover if your total body function is improving with what you’re doing.

Of course, you have the choice to always do what you feel is best for you. And you should.

To make this process as least complicated as possible, we suggest working through The Movement Program without other stretching or mobility exercises so that you can accurately understand what is helping you and why without adding in too many variables or extra thinking.
